Emma's Surgery

Emma underwent surgery to correct both her hips on May 23.  The surgeon also completed a procedure extending the tendons near her heels.  The goal is to prevent Emma from having problems with her hips as she gets older and to help her walk better.  Her hips had grown out of place.

The six hour surgery by Dr. Johnstone at Children's Hospital meant a five day stay.  She had to put up with a hot pink body cast.



There's little movement for Emma.  We have to move her around every two hours to prevent bed sores.  It's been challenging to meet that schedule.  St. Louis Grandpa and West Virginia Grandma and Grandpa have helped out so much.

They've helped take care of the house, feed everyone, mow the grass, take Tess to softball games, shop, etc. We even celebrated Dad's 69th birthday at Emma's bedside. Amy made him a birthday shepherd's pie.

She was inspired by a shepherd's pie one of her coworkers dropped off. The folks at Amy's work have been great. They've sent food and have been checking in with Amy.

 
We hope to cast is removed by the end of June.  After that it's PT!
